My work schedule [fri-sat]
Can you fill in the blanks? (am/pm):
Answers..
5pm - 9pm
11pm - 7am
10am - 6pm
since nobody understood this simple quiz, ill explain it [arent u all studying for exams? ur supposed to be smart -_-] … using am or pm fill in the blanks after the numbers. duh. haha, so anyways, including commutes, setups, n shit, ive essentially i worked worked for about 24 hours straight. funfun.
that just means that one [or both] of my jobs is too easy. hehe, either way, i wanted to do this as a sorta test to see if i could handle the stupidness. results? bring on the double life, hehe.
im gonna admit, it does feel pretty cool to come home, take off the suit, switch into jeans, a tshirt, and shelltoes, then toss on a hat, grab a beer and head out with a cart of vinyls. word.

anyways, the dance crowd was pretty much non-existent and everyone in the place was just standing around the bar. i was on at 12 and im kinda confused cuz ive never mixed from pink panther before… but one nasty cut later, and its big pun blasting in shibuya. score.
so my first like 15-20 min were just total crap cuz i had no idea how to work their equipment. [damn 4-channel mixers] but good thing ppl were drunk cuz they danced either way, hehe, word. rocked for an hour or so then switched off with adam, whos got the freaking best old school hiphop crate i know. jumped on again a while later for a short 30-45 min set and all was fun.

you damn right this shit is bananas, haha. so my dad randomly tells my sisters and me that he got us tickets to gwen stefani at madison square garden. holy wtf! from what i heard, gwen already performed in ny a while back as part of her world tour. but somehow there was an available night at the garden so they booked it and she was gonna come back for a second performance. hotness. however…these tix sold out by like september. so yay for crazy connections~ on top of that, we were front row in our section. ridiculous. and i hate my camera for not having zoom, haha. it actually makes us look like we’re farther than we really were.

anyways, this was my first indoor concert [live 8 being my first concert] and im gonna treat it as two concerts. so obviously gwen stefani was the headliner but as her opening act it was none other than ciara. so we got to basically see a hiphop show and a pop/rock concert. groovy. now, not to hate or anything…but ciara sucked. yea, her songs are ok…but shes freaking terrible live. first off, she hardly sang. she basically “sung” over a recording but really just grunted here n there. after the first dance routine she talked to the audience. and by talk i mean she gasped for breath and nobody knew wtf she was saying. c’mon, if ur a professional performer at least be in shape. weak. ok, and i know i tend to be a lil critical when it comes to dancing…but that shit was whack. straight up, 4 chubby black girls jiggling they’re asses for a half hour is NOT dancing. dirty south my ass, follow a fucking beat. oh, and stage prop dj’s are lame. ive seriously seen some college performances that beat the shit outta ciara’s set. i kinda felt bad tho, cuz the crowd wasnt feelin her at ALL. makes me wonder what its like at like a rap concert…id think itd be pretty boring. mmm…ANYways, time for the main event…

i dont think i wouldve thought ciaras performance was THAT bad if it was just her on stage tonight. but, gwen’s performance REALLY showed the difference between good and great. plus she has the harajuku girls…but more on them later, hehe. so right from the start, you could tell gwen knows how to rock a crowd. her stage presence is HUGE. once she hits the stage, you cant take ur eyes off her [and its not cuz shes hot]. i dont really know how to explain it but she really makes good use of the stage, acknowledges the audience, and is just an amazing entertainer. man, i cant even begin to describe the sound of the crowd. to have 19,000+ ppl singing along with u is mind-boggling, haha.
anyways, one of the coolest things that surprised me was that all the music was LIVE. no djs, no recordings, nothing electronic. one guitar player, one drummer, two keyboards, and an AMAZING female bassist. and let me just say, if the band wasnt there, this show wouldve been entirely different. its something about live music that just adds a whole other layer of beauty to a performance. haha, yea thats right: beauty. being a dj i can understand that to make a really good sounding transition, its not easy at all. but this band was all doing transitions LIVE. and thats just freakin cool, i mean its one thing to match up two records…but to match up with 4-5 other instruments is just beautiful. i definitely came out with a much higher appreciation of musicians and live performances.

so how was the dancing? damn…where to start. fuck it, HA-RA-JU-KU GIRLS !! omg, theyre the four fucking hottest girls on the planet. hahaha. it all boils down to this: female hiphop. ive almost NEVER see any girl dance real strong hiphop…and here were four of them. these four tiny lil girls could own up a majority of dance groups and breaking crews. seriously. what they do in the music vids is nothing compared to what they do live. first off, theyre choreography was tight [and in every sense of the word]. aint no dirty south booty jiggle here, theyre routines had a shitload of hard hits, nasty footwork, some breaking freezes, and POPPING. yea, it might just sound like girls doing guy moves, but its nowhere close. through it all, they definitely kept a distinctly female aura about it. god, so hot. haha, they were just great all-around performers…they did skits, pumped up the audience and just had this whole attitude about it. gwen is a genius for finding them. oh, and for anyone curious, they really are japanese. at the end of the show, gwen intro’d them…well, one from LA, one from tokyo, one from osaka, and one from OKINAWA. theres hiphop in okinawa!?
love, angel, music, baby
no doubt.

had a relatively busy and crammed weekend… lotsa fun squeezed into 2 days.
so the original plan for the weekend was that i drive my equipment up to boston and spin for ‘club asia’ back on tufts campus. i planned to leave at 10am and get to boston sometime between 2-3. but since i wasnt in any rush, i ended up leaving closer to 11. interestingly, by noonish i saw a sign that said ‘boston in 64 miles’. im thinkin…thats weird. then at exactly 1:32, i passed a sign that said ‘boston city line’…er? total time from my house to boston: 2.5 hours. fungwah aint got nothin on me, haha.
anyways, since i got to campus waaaaay ahead of schedule, i just floated around n killed time. thanks to ‘07 boys, alisaun, RUSSELL, and lana for the chill time. dinner at mami as usual with the usuals. then…hotung HOTNESS…
so i think, technically, this is my first professional gig since i dont really have a job now, got paid, and actually traveled for this. cool. also, this is the first live show ive spun since maybe april so my bad if i sounded a lil off. either way, there was a decent turnout and when the crowd finally warmed up, there was much fun all around. although i found it a lil stupid that when i actually spun asian music, either the floor cleared out or mad ppl would complain. club asia my ass, haha. o well…props to all the dancers for holdin it down and respect to alisaun for organizing and running the hotness. no props for russell-the-random-south-african for not showing up…hahaha.

since my babies were with me this trip, i brought up the idea of throwing a start house party for sat. and party we did. it was a really impressive party, actually. we really only started organizing stuff pretty late in the evening. i was at gt til like 9-something then picked up alcohol from kappys and got back to campus around 10-something. finished setting up in an hour or so and it filled up pretty quickly. i dunno what you guys did but MAD props to reuben and trinh for taking charge and gettin the word out, organizing, mixing, and setting up. you guys make me proud, hehe.

so after spinning this start house party, i now have closure; my life at tufts is complete. i feel like if i never go back to campus i would be ok with that. i dont really know why this came about but as i was packing up, things just felt…right. when i graduated last spring, i really felt bittersweet. it was cool to be finished with school but i really didnt wanna leave…in a way, i felt like i was being forced out. so perhaps you could interpret my monthly visits as a reluctance to move on; as if i graduated academically but not emotionally. either way, i now feel like im totally done with tufts…japan? bring it!

last minute shoutouts to all the new ppl i met, start house residents for letting us party, and the dude driving the ford who weaved through traffic with me [we owned up the state of connecticut, haha].
dont be shy, drop a comment~
